Cognitive Science as a Major

Intelligenzia ry does not provide admission or study counseling for cognitive science, but we're happy to share tips and experiences about studying cognitive science. You can reach us at hallitus@intelligenzia.fi

Master's Degree in Cognitive Science

You can complete a Master's degree in cognitive science in the University of Helsinki's Linguistic Diversity and Digital Humanities (LingDig) Master's programme, where cognitive science is one of the available study tracks. The degree is taught in English. You can apply to the programme through the international Master's programme admission in December-January. More information about admission requirements and deadlines can be found on the programme's website.

If you're already studying in a Bachelor's programme at the University of Helsinki, first check in Sisu whether the LingDig Master's programme is one of your Master's options. In this case, you can continue directly to the LingDig programme after your Bachelor's degree, provided you have completed the required cognitive science courses. More information about choosing a Master's option and selection criteria can be found on the university's website.

If you have questions about cognitive science studies or choosing a Master's option, you can contact the cognitive science teaching staff at grp-cog-opintoasiat@helsinki.fi or the Faculty of Arts' study counseling at metsatalo-student@helsinki.fi.

Cognitive Science as Elective Studies

Cognitive science can be combined with almost any field and offers depth and perspective to studies in psychology, computer science, linguistics, phonetics, digital humanities, philosophy, mathematics, biology, or even education or bioinformation technology. It provides a broad perspective on the mind and various information processing mechanisms and offers excellent tools for interdisciplinary interaction in working life as well.
